Description
Jericho Cemetery is located at the corner of Mighell Rd and Base Line Rd, Sugar Grove, IL. Jericho Cemetery opened in 1846.
A Plaque commemorating the church is displayed at the Jericho Cemetery and was dedicated in memory of Alice Kern Harker, 1899 - 1979. “The first church in Sugar Grove Township was erected at Jericho in 1855. It was known as the Mount Prospect Free Mission Church.”
"Construction of the first church building was begun in May of 1855 on Mighell Road, one mile south of Jericho road, adjacent to the Jericho Cemetery. The Mount Prospect Free Mission Church was finished and dedicated the following winter. Subscriptions by congregation members provided the funding for the structure, with Deacon Reuben Johnson providing the balance needed to complete the church. The final use for the church was solely for funeral services."

As I sit in the early twilight
And list to the whip-poor-will,
My thoughts go back to my childhood
And the little white church on the hill.
It stands there in my memory
As it stood in the days so bright,
And it was there in my early Childhood
That I first saw God's pure light.
My mother, there she would lead us
My brothers and sisters all,
To the little white church on the hilltop
Where we met friends, neighbors and all.
The little church of Jericho is not there now at all
But by its site in the grave yard,
Where the grass grows green and the trees grow tall
Lies my mother, father and their childre
And the friend and neighbors all.
And when Gabriel sounds his trumpet
And I answer to the final call,
My prayer is that I meet my mother, father, Brothers, sisters, husband, children and all.
