Going south from here there is a line of "eskers" or long gravel ridges that extent to Bliss woods. Much of these eskers have been mined for the gravel. The CB&Q spur that originated west of Grove St. went due north to the eskers was used to haul out the gravel for railroad roadbed construction. Three mounds south of town are noteworthy. At "Jericho", Jericho Cemetery sits atop a mound. The hill on Rt47 that the highway climbs up and down on. On the Sauer farm, the patch of trees east of Rt47 a bit south of the farmstead is a mined mound that is said to have yielded mastodon bones. - Rick Johnson
