The first 16 cottages were designed by Marcus Burrowes and were all done in the "Arts and Crafts" design. In the 1930's 3 additional cottages were built that were designed by Aaron and Nathaniel Gould. Those were done in a different style. They were also set up as , self sufficient cottages. One was built far west of the main campus and was called the "Farm Colony Cotttage." It was where the world famous "Homestead Experiment" was conducted.

The Gould Cottages
The design of these cottages was differnet then all the other cottages. Constructed during the depression years. The two cottages, 10 and 11 (later 12 and 13) that were built on the eastside of Sheldon were mirror images of each other. They resembled the style of the Fire Hall also desigb by the Gould's. These were used as part of the expanded homestead program. The location of these two cottages is now "Firemans Park" The Farm Colony Cottage was the start of the homestead program where students were living unsupervised and required to make there own rules. The cottage was isloated over almost a 1/2 mile from the main campus. details of the program can be found here (add Link). After the school was closed one of the cottages was used for an annual JayCees Haunted House during the early 1980's (add link)
