The Storehouse

The Storehouse, also known as the Warehouse, was just to the west of the Powerhouse in the far northeast section of the grounds. It was also built into a hillside so that the front (west-facing) part had two stories and the back had three. This was one of only two buildings that had elevators. Its elevator was located in the central part of the back and just like the Hospital Building it was stopped on the top floor. The top two floors were vast and open like a typical warehouse would be supported by dozens of cement columns not unlike the style that Albert Kahn had pioneered a decade earlier. There were a few secure cages that I recall being on the top floor near the north side.

The 1942 Sanborn map shows a tunnel connected to the most northern east-west tunnel. All I can remember is a very small run with pipes heading in the direction of the warehouse.
