Clare Groff Frantz

May, 22,1937 Clare Groff Frantz posed behind the Hotel West. In the background is the south side of Keck's Store and to the far right is the corner of a building that Groff would one day own and become his home and workshop. Groff was a distinguished Sugar Grover, citizen, churchman, an industrious, mechanical genius and father of Clif, Nancy, Dave and Steve.

Our ancestors came from Switzerland in the 1740's. They were Menonite and settled in Penn. It was not uncommon to incorporate maiden names of spouses when naming babies when they were born. My Grandfather's name was also Clare Groff Frantz. My Great Grandmother's last name was Groff. It's funny though, my Great Grandfather's name was Benjamin Franklin Frantz, but we couldn't find any record of kite fliers in the family. To bad it would have been a great story.
